Placenta Encapsulation

I am trained in and offer placenta encapsulation as well as placenta keepsake prints, umbilical cord keepsakes, and placenta tinctures.

If I am already serving as your doula, I will take your placenta with me when I leave. Otherwise, I will pick up your placenta at your birthplace, and return it to you within 3 days.

Encapsulation

The two main methods in preparing a placenta for encapsulation are the Raw Method and the Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) Method. I offer both services.  Both methods involve dehydrating then encapsulating the placenta.

The TCM Method requires the placenta to be steamed before dehydrating.  The Raw Method offers a more potent and hormone-rich dosage, while the TCM Method has a more mellow effect. We can discuss your health history, needs, and expectations and decide together which method to use.  One placenta yields between 60 and 175 capsules.

Cord Keepsakes

In many cultures, the umbilical cord is considered sacred, and not to be discarded lightly.  Some people choose to bury the cord. Others choose to dehydrate the cord into a shape to frame, hang in their baby's room, or bury when the child reaches puberty or adulthood.  A cord keepsake is included in all placenta packages if desired.  I most often dry it in the shape of a heart or spiral.

Tinctures

Tinctures can also be made from the placenta. They last much longer than placenta capsules and can be used for baby during teething or to help with transitions, later during menopause for hormone and nutrient support, and can be given to support a daughter as she reaches puberty.

Prints

Many people enjoy having a print of the placenta to frame. The placenta is such an important part of your baby's beginnings and your pregnancy!  It is something that only you and your baby share.  The placenta looks like the tree of life, and makes lovely prints.
