What is Myofascial Release?

Updated: 7 days ago

Myofascial release is a life changing, long lasting phenomenal form of therapy that focuses on releasing tension and tightness in the fascia, a liquid crystalline structure that carries electrical charge throughout our bodies. Fascia is also a connective tissue that surrounds and weaves through muscles, bones, and organs in the body. It connects every part of the body to every other part of the body. It is extraordinarily strong, and when it is flowing and communicating well with the rest of the body, it keeps us strong and healthy in body, mind, and spirit.

The fascia, however, can become tight and restricted due to physical or emotional trauma, poor posture, repetitive movements, or inflammation. These restrictions can lead to pain and disease, emotional distress, limited range of motion, and feeling stuck with an inability to heal in body and mind.

During a myofascial release session, the therapist will gently apply sustained pressure to specific areas of the body where fascial restrictions are present. This allows the fascia to untangle, elongate, rehydrate, and release tension gradually and with much longer lasting effects. As the fascia resets to its strong healthy flow, the very structure of the body untwists and aligns.

By releasing fascial restrictions, myofascial release aims to improve circulation, reduce pain, increase flexibility, release stuck trauma, and restore overall balance in the body. This therapy is often used to treat conditions such as chronic pain, fibromyalgia, headaches, TMJ disorders, sexual and pelvic dysfunction, and injuries of all kinds.

Myofascial release is a gentle and effective method for addressing fascial restrictions and promoting healing in the body. It emphasizes the importance of listening to the body's cues and allowing the fascia to release tension at its own pace.

With myofascial bodywork from a skilled and present myofascial therapist, healing is absolutely possible!
